Theodore Roosevelt Council patches

The Council has issued many patches over the years for a multitude of different events. There are way too many patches for one page, so I have broken them into different categories. Look for the menu at the bottom of each page to jump to the other council patch pages.

I scanned many of these patches years ago when file sizes were usually kept low both for space and for download times. I hope to redo these in larger sizes in the future.

Council Shoulder Patches

When I was first in Scouting your town, state, and unit were identified through individual patches on your left uniform sleeve. Then, in 1970, a new policy was enacted that replaced these with a Council Shoulder Patch ("CSP") that was identical for all Scouts in that council. The National Council may have been looking for more uniformity, as there was now one design for everyone in a local council, but that any such plan didn't last long. Since then the CSP situation has exploded, with all sorts of commemorative designs issued, leading to a total lack of conformity as to use. One Scout could wear a decades-old design, while on either side of him could be Scouts wearing completely different designs.

Collecting CSP's has become a big hobby for many patch collectors, and a big money maker for many councils. Our Council has certainly done it's share to add to the CSP craze! Here are the ones found so far. The numbers after some of the patches are from the Blue Book catalog of Scout patches. It looks like that book hasn't been updated lately so many of the patches are not so identified.

No details available on this early CSP.	This red and white CSP was used on the uniforms of the professional council staff. It was also used for Council contingents sent to events such as National and World Jamborees.	386T-1 The first of the modern CSPs issued by the Council.
386T-2	This version of the CSP was only available to Eagle Scouts from the Council. I'm proud to have mine!	386T-3 Special 1985 edition for the 75th Anniversary of Scouting.
386T-4 1987 edition for the 70th Anniversary of Nassau County Council.	386TA-7 This version was issued as a numbered fund raiser set of 300.	The first patch for the renamed Theodore Roosevelt Council.
Special "Charter Member" edition for those in the Council at the time of the name change.	This version of the CSP is only available to Eagle Scouts from the Council. I'm proud to have mine!	Special edition for those in the Council for 2000.

This set of patches was issued by Buckskin Lodge in 2009 to mark the Lodge's 50th anniversary.

Camping Fund Raiser Council Shoulder Patches

This set was released in 2005 to celebrate Onteora's 50th Anniversary as a fund raiser for the Council's camping programs. It appears there was a numbered set in addition to the base set but I only have one example so far.

Friends of Scouting Council Shoulder Patches

These patches are given to those who donate to a special Friends of Scouting fund. They are released on an annual basis, with each one based on a point of the Scout Law. Different border colors have been used to denote the amount of the donation. Here are the levels as of 2025:

* Under $100 Round Activity Patch (the round patches were a relatively new addition and were discontinued after 2024)
* $100 - $249 = Red CSP
* $250 - $499 = Red CSP + Gold CSP
* $500 + = Red CSP + Gold CSP + Silver CSP

National Jamboree Council Shoulder Patches

These special issues are used for those attending the National Jamboree. Some years had jacket patches as part of the set. In recent years the Council has licensed super-hero characters from Marvel Comics, making them highly sought after by CSP collectors and Marvel collectors.

90th Anniversary CSP Set

This set of 12 CSPs was issued in 2007 to celebrate the Council's 90th anniversary. The set was issued with both cloth and mylar edges. Only the cloth versions are shown here. Please let me know if you have any extra copies of the mylar versions.
