and listened to the silence?
     Hearing voices low and distant,
     listening to birds singing
     All backed up by the rustling of leaves. Have you ever stared at the evening sky
For no apparent reason?
     Billions of stars, shining
     The Big Dipper,
     Cassiopeia,
     The Milky Way. Have you ever walked through a forest of dew
In the morning's early light?
     Watching a dear browse,
     Seeing a beaver swim,
     Marveling at the creation. If you have,
Then you know
Why I return.
Why I love Onteora.

Lakes, trails, streams and trees
    Oh what a beautiful place to be.
Hiking, camping and rowing
     We all just to keep it going. Working together is how it should be,
     Not for you or for me.
New friendships are made
     And the old ones remain. We all moan about this and that,
     But we all know that soon we'll be over it.
The money may be scarce, but I don't care,
     'Cause I always want to be there. Lakes, trails, streams and trees
     Oh what a beautiful place to be.
