It's easy to see how the place got its name. Imagine trying to cross this in a covered wagon, or with all that rock just below the ground, trying to start a farm there.

Theodore Roosevelt National Memorial Park
We then stopped at a nearby national park to see a former home of Teddy Roosevelt. This had a special connection for our Council, for he was one of the founding members. In fact, the former Nassau County Council is now known as the Theodore Roosevelt Council.
